The U.S. Department of Justice is asking Washington to turn over a trove of personal voter information as it ramps up a national data-collection effort aligned with President Donald Trump’s longstanding, unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud.

A DOJ letter to Secretary of State Steve Hobbs, dated Sept. 8, asks the state within 14 days to turn over a copy of its complete voter database, including full names, addresses, birthdates and driver’s license or partial Social Security numbers.

Hobbs said in an interview Tuesday he and his team are reviewing the letter before making a formal response, but that “most likely we will not give them that information.”
