MARKLE, Indiana (WJW) – Police in Indiana say the death of a newborn infant was a “terrible tragedy.”
Officers responded to a home in Markle on September 4, following a 911 call that a child had been bitten in a home by the family dog.
According to the Huntington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies found 7-day old Jason Weaver in critical condition. The child was transported to the hospital, where he died.
An autopsy conducted at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center determined the child died because of multiple blunt force traumatic injuries and listed the cause of death as accidental.
According to TODAY.com, the dog was a 5-year-old husky/pit bull mix, with no previously reported incidents.
