Less than 24 after Mount Clemens city commissioners heard a city booster’s suggestion to remove park benches from Rotary Park in an effort to discourage troublemakers from lingering at the park, DPW work crews removed the wood benches Tuesday morning.
The action followed complaints from nearby business owners that Rotary Park in the city’s downtown has become a haven for the homeless, some of whom engage in rowdy and troublesome behavior that scares off visitors.
“We are very concerned and wanted to react and let the businesses and residents of Mount Clemens know we are taking action and want them to know we heard them,” Mayor Laura Kropp said at a workshop meeting Monday.
