CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Nearly three weeks after a Ukrainian refugee was stabbed to death on a Charlotte light rail, President Donald Trump called for her suspected killer to receive the death penalty.
The refugee, 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska, was stabbed in the throat shortly after she boarded the train on Aug. 22.
Graphic video showed a Zarutska get on the train and sit down in the seat directly in front of 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr. Moments later, the video showed Brown pull out a knife, rear back his arm, and plunge the weapon into the young woman’s throat. She died on the train, while Brown got off with the knife still dripping blood.
Brown was arrested soon after and was charged with first-degree murder. He appeared in Mecklenburg County court on Aug. 29 and was denied bon
