CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Cedar Rapids Fire crews, along with mutual aid partners, worked tirelessly Tuesday to contain a significant tree debris and brush pile fire at Beverly Gardens on Edgewood Road Southwest.
Thousands of gallons of water were used to control the blaze and prevent its spread. The fire involved a pile of debris up to 15 feet high, surrounded by mulch three to four feet deep.
Despite initial suppression efforts, the pile and surrounding mulch continue to smolder. As of Wednesday morning, smoke is still visible.
City crews, with assistance from the Fairfax Fire Department, are using large equipment to expose hot spots and prevent reignition. Efforts on-site will continue until the situation is fully resolved.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
