CROWN POINT — The Lake County Coroner's Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Sept. 3 shooting death of the 47-year-old wife of a county councilman.

Nicole S. Mabon-Brewer died of a gunshot wound at the Gary home she shared with Lake County Councilman Ron Brewer Sr., D-Gary, according to the coroner's office.

Records show the coroner's office was dispatched to the residence in the 2300 block of West 20th Place at 11:25 a.m. and Mabon-Brewer was officially pronounced dead at 12:22 p.m.

The coroner's office issued a press release Tuesday confirming a gunshot was Mabon-Brewer's cause of death based on an autopsy conducted Sept. 4 at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point.
