LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Michigan State Rep. Regina Weiss (D-Oak Park) introduced a nine-bill Investing in Education legislative package on Wednesday morning.
Weiss reports that this new legislation would "ensure funding for Michigan schools in the face of instability from Republicans` ongoing budget failure."
The Michigan House of Representatives passed a state budget of just over $78 billion during the Aug. 26 House session, almost two months after the July 1 deadline.
59 representatives voted yes, and 45 voted; 6 lawmakers did not vote. The House’s budget has now been transmitted to the Michigan Senate for consideration. The Republican budget and the Democratic budget have around a $5 billion difference.
