A tourist town in the Derbyshire Dales is breathing a sigh of relief as one of its main roads reopens after a summer of roadworks meant pedestrian access only. Roadworks on St John Street in Ashbourne , which are part of the council-run Ashbourne Reborn programme , have finished and the street has celebrated going "back to normal".

The road has been closed to traffic since March this year , and is the first to reopen as nearby Dig Street is set to remain closed for a further two months. The end of the closure was celebrated with a fashion show organised by the town on Sunday, September 7, and traffic has been allowed to enter the road again on September 8.
