PINE BELT, Miss. (WDAM) - Three men are behind bars after leading the Jones County Sheriff’s Department on a high-speed chase through Sandersville on Tuesday afternoon.

According to JCSD, deputies were manning a safety checkpoint on West Main Street near the intersection of I-59 in Sandersville.

The driver of a Dodge Journey Crossroad with a Forrest County tag was stopped and then fled from the traffic stop heading east into downtown Sandersville.

Three people were in the car at the time: Dante Carter, the driver, and Jimmarious and Jimmarcus Williams.

While pursuing the Dodge, a handgun was thrown from the vehicle. It was recovered during the pursuit. Jimmarcus Williams allegedly threw it out of the vehicle.
