The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is launching an investigation into the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) following the fatal stabbing of a Ukrainian refugee aboard a LYNX Blue Line train.
Iryna Zarutska, 23, died Aug. 22 after she was stabbed in the neck by a man who was said to have a mental disorder. The attack, which was recorded by a CATS surveillance camera and released to the media, has become a flashpoint in the culture war over crime, drawing comments from President Donald J. Trump and other top Republicans, as well as from some Democrats.
