A New Jersey man was sentenced to 12-14 years in prison for raping his 14-year-old relative in Massachusetts , authorities announced Tuesday.

Cheldon Clare , 46, will also be put on probation for five years and must register as a sex offender when he’s released, prosecutors said in a press release.

Clare, a Hasbrouck Heights native, was convicted earlier this year of raping the 14-year-old girl in Hyannis, Mass. Authorities did not reveal his exact relation to her.

In August 2021, Clare made the five-hour drive from Bergen County to Cape Cod to meet the girl, then assaulted her inside his vehicle, according to investigators. His DNA was on the victim’s pants, and his cellphone was at her home at the time of the assault, cops said.
