Like father, like son: Great Lakes piping plover family spotted wintering together in the South

SEABROOK ISLAND, SC -- Even after piping plovers leave the shorelines of the Great Lakes, Michiganders take great care to follow the fluffy Mitten mascots. The most recent heartwarming story comes from “super dad” Kyler who is wintering with one of his three chicks in the South.

Since hatching in Northern Michigan’s Wilderness State Park two years ago, Kyler has fledged seven chicks.
