An NYPD officer took his own life at his Long Island home shortly after he was stripped of his gun and shield because he was under investigation by the Internal Affairs Bureau, department sources said.

Homeland Security Investigations was also involved in the probe, sources said, though the nature of the case was not clear.

The feds did not comment.

The cop, Officer Salvatore Buscemi, an eight-year veteran, died by suicide in his West Islip home Tuesday morning, sources said. Suffolk Police said it does not provide information on what it calls “non-criminal deaths.”

The NYPD had earlier placed Buscemi on modified duty.
