The union representing more than 22,000 health care professionals across Alberta said its members have voted to reject the labour deal with Alberta Health Services and other provincial health agencies.

In a Wednesday news release, the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) said in a provincewide vote spanning from Aug. 28 to Sept. 10, 59.4 per cent of eligible voters voted to reject the tentative agreement. The voter turnout was 78 per cent, a record according to the union.

HSAA president Mike Parker said frontline workers are sending a message to the province, saying the deal does not do enough to support its members.
