Charlotte Korchak visited Auschwitz concentration camp for the first time on Aug. 17. Although she was visiting Poland for a wedding – a celebration – she couldn’t bring herself to leave the country without paying her respects to her Jewish ancestors who lost their lives in the death camp decades before.

What Korchak didn’t know, however, was that the average tour she thought she was embarking on would make international headlines.

As the founder and senior educator of Jerusalem Education Institute, a nonprofit organization that aims to provide factual, nuanced and accessible information on Israel and the Middle East through presentations and discussions, Korchak devotes her career to education on ongoing Jewish affairs.
