FRANKFORT, Ky. — According to State Treasurer Mark Metcalf, R-Ky., Jefferson County residents have almost $120 million in unclaimed property

Several items fall under the umbrella of unclaimed property. Metcalf said the financial assets have been unclaimed or left inactive for several years—typically three. If property isn’t claimed, it is transferred to the Treasury’s Division of Unclaimed Property for safekeeping.

Examples include:

• Dormant bank accounts

• Unclaimed insurance policies

• Utility deposits

• Stocks and bonds

• Safe deposit box contents
