CINCINNATI (WXIX) - A Tri-State community is taking a step toward progress after a tornado swept through Adams County in 2024, leaving a lasting impact.

Until last week, the historic Kirker Covered Bridge was without a roof due to a tornado, but those spearheading its repair said this new roof is a major step forward.

“I mean, this stretch of highway and the history of Adams County would not be the same without it, so I think it lives on for a purpose,” Tom Kirker said.

Kirker is a direct descendant of Gov. Thomas Kirker, the second governor of Ohio, and the man for whom the historic Adams County bridge is named.

He said that the bridge has been without a roof for over a year, but this new development in its repair has brought him a sense of healing.
