TOWN OF MANLIUS, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- As the school year picks up, the Town of Manlius Police Department is warning drivers to slow down.

"This time of year, there tends to be more in the sense of violations because you're coming off of summer, and often drivers forget," Captain Jeffrey Slater explained.

Manlius Police prepared for back to school for weeks. First, they handed out flyers to drivers in school zones as a reminder that they would soon be enforced. Next, they put out their radar trailers in school zones.

But even with the heads up, Manlius Police handed out 19 tickets for school zone violations on day one of Enforcement Week, September 9. By noon on September 10, officers had already issued 15 tickets to drivers.
