CENTRAL SQUARE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- It's the first full week of school for students across Central New York, and the state's new cell phone ban is officially underway. Some districts were skeptical about how it would play out, including Central Square.
Governor Hochul's statewide cell phone ban had some school leaders bracing for pushback. But Central Square, Superintendent Tom Colabufo says, it's been a surprisingly easy transition.
"I guess I was a naysayer originally with the legislation, thinking it's going to result in us having to hire more people, process more referrals, we haven't seen, knock on wood, any of that," said Colabufo.
Colabufo says so far, things are going better than expected.
