The myth about the split season is that it really splits opinions, and that 50 per cent are for it, while the other half are against it. The reality is, that the majority of people are for it, and those against it are just very loud, but that’s not to say that the structure is perfect as is.
Those who argue against this format claim that inter-county football and hurling are the sport’s flagship products, so to reduce the time that those games are on our screens — and leave the summer for other sports to take precedence — is like shooting yourself in the foot.
