WILLIAMSBURG — The Giglio Feast, one of the world’s most renowned Italian festivals, recently took place in Williamsburg, drawing more than 50,000 people over its 12-day run this past July.

The event is much more than a neighborhood feast; it’s a tradition that preserves cultural traditions, transcends generations of families and reinforces community bonds.

Mark Mascioli, 49, a Giglio lifter since the age of 17, spoke to the Brooklyn Eagle about his memories of the feast. Mascioli ascended the ranks from “lifter” to “apprentice capo,” and brought his 13-year-old son into the fray to continue the family tradition.
