KILGORE, Texas (KLTV) - Lori George-Richard, the coordinator of counseling at Kilgore College, works with many students who face struggles with mental health, and, more specifically, suicidal thoughts.

They’re not alone. Overall, about 5% of adults, 20% of high school students and 13% of college students nationwide struggled with suicidal thoughts this past year.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and George-Richard wants people to learn the warning signs of suicide, and know what community resources are available to help.

Someone’s risk of suicide can increase if they’ve experienced a major life stressor, such as a death in the family or job loss.
