EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. (KOLO) - On Monday, Sept. 8, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Echo 1 helicopter crew found and rescued a mountain biker in the Carson Iceberg Wilderness who had crashed and was unable to self-extract, according to an agency Facebook post on Wednesday, Sept. 10.

After the incident happened late Sunday, Sept. 7, the Alpine County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, and the California Office of Emergency Services began working on a plan to save the mountain biker the next day.

He was in the federal wilderness area about 80 miles northeast of Stockton, Calif.

Instead of waiting 10 hours for ground rescuers to hike to the mountain biker, they used Echo 1 for a hoist rescue.
