VIRGINIA, USA — Gov. Glenn Youngkin has ordered U.S. and Virginia flags to be flown at half-staff across the Commonwealth on Thursday to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the terrorist attacks of 2001.
The order also recognizes the heroes who died in rescue efforts and those who defended American ideals of freedom, justice, and liberty.
Flags will be lowered at sunrise and remain at half-staff until sunset on all state and local buildings and grounds.
The governor is also encouraging Virginians to display the U.S. flag at homes, schools, workplaces, and gathering places as a reminder of unity and resilience.
He called on Virginians to pause and reflect on the sacrifice and courage shown on 9/11 and to recommit to service in their communities and nation.
