BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The Bakersfield City Council is slated to approve an agreement with the Community Action Partnership of Kern to help reduce energy costs for several homes in Southeast Bakersfield, according to the agenda.

If approved, CAPK will work with GRID Alternatives and Kern Community College District to help the city implement the Low-Income Energy Efficiency Program in Southeast Bakersfield, an area of the city with some of the most disadvantaged census tracts in all of California, according to CalEnviroScreen 4.0.

As part of the project, CAPK would weatherize 50 single-family residential units in Southeast Bakersfield and GRID would install solar panels for 30 additional units, resulting in the retrofitting of 80 total homes in the area, according to city officials
