The WITN First Alert Weather Team is monitoring a tropical wave moving off the West Coast of Africa. The National Hurricane Center is giving the area to watch a 20% chance of developing into a tropical system over the next week.
As the wave moves off the coast, and into the open waters of the Atlantic, atmospheric conditions will be slightly favorable for potential development.
The developing system will encounter marginal sea surface temperatures, but with Saharan dust present, that may hinder development.
While it is still hundreds of miles away from the East Coast, the future track and intensity of the system remain uncertain at this time. The next name on the list is Gabrielle.
