The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is partnering with local artists to add a bit of flair to the agency’s long-term redesign projects along I-376.
The artwork’s overarching theme, “Hidden Histories,” invites artists to utilize “often-overlooked layers of the region’s unique appeal,” PennDOT spokesperson Yasmeen Manyisha said in a release.
PennDOT has approved an artistic design to enhance the Route 22/I-376 Interchange project. Pittsburgh-based artist Kim Beck called her artwork “Appalachian Ecology: Nature’s Quilt,” which features silhouettes of birds, geese, deer and plants native to Pennsylvania. Renderings are available on PennDOT’s project page.
The overhauled interchange will have practical functions as well. PennDOT is replacing the current “diamond” interchange with
