The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is partnering with local artists to add a bit of flair to the agency’s long-term redesign projects along I-376.

The artwork’s overarching theme, “Hidden Histories,” invites artists to utilize “often-overlooked layers of the region’s unique appeal,” PennDOT spokesperson Yasmeen Manyisha said in a release.

PennDOT has approved an artistic design to enhance the Route 22/I-376 Interchange project. Pittsburgh-based artist Kim Beck called her artwork “Appalachian Ecology: Nature’s Quilt,” which features silhouettes of birds, geese, deer and plants native to Pennsylvania.
