A criminal investigation is underway into the case of August Borden, a 15-year-old who was seriously injured last month at Deshler High School.

The Colbert County officials determined it was a criminal case and turned it over to the Madison County District Attorney on Aug. 28. Madison County’s DA confirmed the case is being handled as a criminal investigation.

Borden was airlifted from the Tuscumbia school on Aug. 19 with brain injuries, broken orbital bones and more.

Contrasting stories began circulating shortly after he was injured as to what happened. The school system announced that Borden suffered injuries from a fall, while other school officials told his dad, Jason, another student had injured him.
