JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Andrew Bailey began his transition from Missouri Attorney General to Deputy Director of the FBI.

As he made the jump from Jefferson City to Washington, D.C., he left some final words for people in his home state of Missouri.

Bailey explained his decision in a letter to Missourians.

“After 9/11, I took an oath to protect our nation and defend the Constitution. With every oath comes a duty, and when duty calls, we must answer,” Bailey wrote.

Bailey went on to write that his time as Missouri Attorney General was shorter than he expected, but it was the “honor of his life.”

He also said he is proud of what the state accomplished during his time in the office.
