DES MOINES, Iowa -- (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol Bureau) -- Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was shot and killed during an event at Utah Valley University Wednesday afternoon.

Kirk, 31, founded Turning Point USA in 2012, focused on younger conservatives. He was credited with helping to drive younger people to vote for President Donald Trump in the 2024 election.

Kirk frequently traveled to college campuses to hold speeches. Utah Valley University is a public university in Orem and hosted Kirk with a crowd gathered around him.

Authorities did not immediately identify or apprehend Kirk’s attacker.
