Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says she remains optimistic about a possible new oil pipeline, despite a report suggesting the proposal is not on Ottawa’s official list of so-called nation-building projects the federal government plans to fast-track.

While no pipeline companies have come forward with a project, Smith says she still believes there’s an economic case for one, adding she’s encouraged by her government’s talks with the Carney government.

“They’re having very constructive conversations,” Smith said. “We’re very hopeful that in short order, we’ll be able to get this to the finish line together.”
