DES MOINES, Iowa —
The Iowa Transportation Commission has approved over $8 million in funding to replace 40 public transit vehicles in 16 public transit systems across the state.
Two of those are in Des Moines. The total cost to replace the two buses is around $254,000. The federal funding will cover about $216,000 of that, and the rest of the cost will be covered locally.
Funds are granted through the Federal Transit Administration's Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Formula Program as well as the Federal Highway Administration's Carbon Reduction Program.
