The Edcouch-Elsa school district’s new superintendent, who is married to the board’s vice president, will be paid $235,000 with an automatic 3% increase to her salary every year.

The school board approved the contract for Sandra Ochoa on Aug. 25. MyRGV.com has obtained a copy of the contract.

Sandra Ochoa is married to Ricardo Ochoa, the school board’s vice president. The only dissenting vote on Aug. 25 was from board member Norma Linda Pena.

“I vote nay because we still have a conflict that jeopardizes public trust,” Peña said at the time.

Pena has been the only board member that has consistently voted against appointing Ochoa as interim superintendent and as lone finalist.
