(KRON) -- A subject in the fatal shooting of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk was taken into custody, according to FBI Director, Kash Patel. Kirk, 31, was shot and killed while making an appearance on campus at Utah Valley University Wednesday.

"The subject for the horrific shooting today that took the life of Charlie Kirk is now in custody," Patel tweeted. "Thank you to the local and state authorities in Utah with your partnership with FBI."

As of 5 p.m., the subject in custody has been released after being interrogated by authorities, according to Patel.
