NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -With more than 20 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention centers, Texas leads the nation in the number of such facilities. Following the recent opening of the so-called Louisiana Lockup at Angola Prison, Louisiana is second. There are now 8 holding facilities, and one staging area dedicated to ICE detainees in Louisiana.

“It’s a major warehousing point for immigration throughout the country, so people get brought in from across the country,” said Homero Lopez, legal director of Immigration Services and Legal Advocacy (ISLA) of New Orleans.
