Just as his son shone on the field last Saturday, Robbie Macdonald dominated the post-game celebrations in the Hawthorn rooms.

One of the highlights of their AFL elimination-final win over GWS was video of Macdonald madly hugging anyone within range.

Son Connor, who kicked three goals against the Giants, says that's completely in character.

"I'd definitely say I have the best footy Dad in the world and like all the fans, I love it," Connor told AAP.

"It's just pure emotion, he wears his heart on his sleeve and when there's close games and big wins like that, he can't help himself.

"I'm completely used to that. The emotion just takes over - it's really cool."

Robbie has attended all of his son's 88 AFL games and is the biggest influence on his career.
