BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) - School just started, and already Boardman is handling a tough situation with character that could lead to a life-changing experience for a teacher.

Lunch at Boardman High School is time for eating, talking, and walking. Many students on Wednesday went over to a bucket to drop in a dollar or more to support a classmate, Joey Bertin.

"Joey's a great kid. It's just an unfortunate circumstance that he's been a part of right now. And we just care for his family, and we treat him as family here. So we just want to make sure we take care of our own," said Andrew King, a math teacher.

There was a fire at the Bertin home this week, and the teachers at Boardman wanted to help. The money, even one dollar a a time, is adding up.
