EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The Michigan Department of Civil Rights hosted its 15th annual Michigan Response to Hate Conference in East Lansing on Wednesday.

MDCR and Michigan Alliance Against Hate Crimes partnered to bring information and resources to communities that will help them prevent and address hate at the local level.

The conversation of hate isn’t black and white.

“While the target today might be immigrants, tomorrow might be African Americans, might be women after that, transsexuals after that,” said Chairperson for Michigan Civil Rights Commission David Worthams. “We push back against that darkness, against that evil, by becoming a light by helping others.”

It affects everyone, which is why David Worthams is bringing together people of all backgrounds for the conference.
