SAN FRANCISCO -- Charlie Kirk, a powerful right wing activist, influential podcaster and Trump ally, was shot and killed on Wednesday while hosting an event at Utah Valley University.

He was the founder of Turning Point USA, a nonprofit devoted to the propagation of right-wing beliefs among young Americans.

Kirk was known for visiting college campuses across the country and debating students on a variety of political topics. He had just begun what was being called the American Comeback Tour.
