OWLS HEAD, Maine (WABI) - September 10th, 1825, marked the first time Owl’s Head Light lit the Penobscot Bay.

200 years later, the American Lighthouse Foundation welcomed people to look back on its past.

“I believe these memories are like the essence of why we love these types of places. Of course, it’s the sea. Of course, we know about shipwrecks and why they were built, but it’s the people again. It’s these stories of living everyday life, sometimes happy times sometimes sad times,” said Executive Director of the American Lighthouse Foundation Bob Trapani Jr.

Former lighthouse keepers shared stories of their time living at the station that ranged from enduring 100 mile-an-hour winds to paranormal encounters.

Though most were about the good times.
