DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - There have been 40 school bus stop arm violations just this year alone, but cameras on the busses are helping the police crack down on violators.

Many will recall seeing a video in 2023, where a young girl was nearly hit by a car going through a school bus stop arm violation in Willow River.

From a bus driver perspective, it’s difficult to understand why someone wouldn’t stop.

Driver Karen Wickner says, “if I have a stop arm out, all cars going behind me and in front of me are supposed to stop.”

Since that incident in 2023, the Duluth School District was given $70,000 by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety to install stop arm cameras on every district bus.
