CENTRAL ILLINOIS ( 25News Now ) - If it seems like we’re tracking an increase in child pornography arrests, the Bloomington Police Department said that is right.

The Bloomington Police Department reported in 2020 that the department had 10 investigations of child pornography, and this year alone, they’re at 15 investigations with five arrests for the crime. The department also said the public is the main driver behind it.

The bulk of these cases comes from cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which is then assessed by the federal Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Bloomington Officer Bryce Janssen said as more people report these tips, the greater the chances police have to catch child predators.
