PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Jackson County man is dead after he was involved in a single-vehicle crash Monday afternoon, officials say.

Oregon State Police responded to an incident on Highway 99 near milepost 12 in Jackson County just after 2 p.m. on Sept. 8, according to a press release.

When they arrived, they found 26-year-old Cody Austin Jenkins' vehicle had veered off of the highway and into the Rogue River, where it was quickly submerged.

The Jackson County Search and Rescue Team responded and recovered the Subaru Legacy from the river.

Jenkins, who is from Gold Hill, did not escape. He was declared dead at the scene. There were no other occupants inside.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
