EDMONDS, Wash. — After five uncertain years marked by confusion and controversy, the Edmonds Police Department has a new leader at the helm.

Police Chief Loi Dawkins, who can often be found walking on a treadmill in her office while conducting business, says the days of instability are behind the city.

"A couple times I've done this on Zoom. So they're like, 'What are you doing?' Multitasking," Dawkins said from her office treadmill during her first televised interview.

Edmonds has seen three police chiefs in the last five years, four if you count the interim chief. The newly appointed Dawkins isn't one to stand still, both literally and figuratively. When asked if she's hit the ground running as chief, she responded with a smile: "Yes! You could say that!"
