OLYMPIA, Wash. — The U.S. Department of Justice has ordered Washington state to turn over its full voter registration database within two weeks, prompting pushback from Secretary of State Steve Hobbs, who says he will not release private voter information.
The DOJ’s request, sent in a letter Monday, seeks the complete list of registered voters, including names, birthdates, home addresses, and driver’s license or partial Social Security numbers. At least 22 other states have received similar demands.
