Concord city councilors are putting a question on the ballot in November asking voters if the city should allow social districts — a designated area where patrons can buy alcohol and take it with them to consume.

A similar question will appear on the Nov. 4 ballot in Nashua. The Portsmouth City Council will hold a public hearing later this month to determine if the coastal city will follow suit.

Earlier this month, New Hampshire became the ninth state to allow people to purchase alcohol at local bars and restaurants, then take it with them in a to-go cup while moving through designated “sip and stroll” areas downtown.

The legislation — HB 467 — was signed into law by Gov. Kelly Ayotte in July. The statute took effect Sept. 5.
