The ASX 200 has fallen on Thursday after a mixed session in the United States where software giant Oracle skyrocketed on news of a deal with ChatGPT-maker OpenAI, making its founder briefly the world’s richest man.

The index is down 0.2 per cent after the first hour of trading.

It was a mixed bag on Wall Street where the S&P 500 rose by 0.3 per cent as the Dow Jones dropped 0.5 per cent and the Nasdaq finished flat.

OpenAI signed a contract to purchase US$300 billion in computing power over five years from Oracle.

News of the deal sent Oracle’s share price surging 40 per cent and pushed the net worth of the software giant’s founder Larry Ellison to US$393 billion at one point, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
