CLEVELAND -- With the two teams fighting for a postseason spot as the season quickly winds down, the Royals and Guardians went back and forth Wednesday night before Kansas City ended up on top in a much-needed 4-3 win at Progressive Field.
Following two frustrating losses to begin the series, the Royals held the Guardians off on Wednesday and kept the battle for an American League Wild Card spot alive.
With the win, Kansas City (74-72) sits 3 1/2 games back of the third AL Wild Card spot , pending the Mariners’ (77-68) game against the Cardinals on Wednesday in Seattle. The Guardians (74-71) fell to three games back, still ahead of the Royals by a half-game. Both teams are still chasing the Rangers (77-70), winners of four straight who are a game out of a Wild Card spot, with the AL
