COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Thursday marks 24 years since the September 11th terrorist attack in the U.S. Planes crashed into the World Trade Center buildings, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 people died that day.
Former Colorado Springs City Council President Randy Helms was in the Pentagon when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into it. He was working under the Defense Secretary, responsible for briefing him on what was happening in Iraq.
“We knew at the time even before 9/11 that there was terrorist threats going on. We didn’t know exactly, but we knew things we’re not good. Something was up,” Helms said.
