TOLEDO, Ohio — A task force formed in back in May to rebuild trust between the community and Lucas County Children Services is moving forward on its goals.

Although Wednesday marked the group’s eighth meeting, some members said it was the first time they felt like they had made real progress.

“We are going to do a final review of our eight priority areas,” said Doris Tolliver, a consultant leading the meetings.

The 27-member task force is currently honing in on two key priorities.

“Increasing community transparency and trust. The second one is focused on reducing disparities,” Tolliver said.

Tolliver pointed to national and local data showing Black children often face worse outcomes in child welfare than any other group. Other members also brought their concerns to the table.
